The primary visa for international students in the United States is the F-1 visa. This visa allows students to enroll full-time in accredited academic institutions, such as universities, colleges, or language programs. To apply, you must first be accepted by a SEVP-approved institution, which will issue a Form I-20 required for the visa application.
The F-1 visa process includes submitting your DS-160 form, paying the SEVIS fee, scheduling and attending a visa interview, and presenting proof of financial support and intent to return to your home country after studies.
F-1 visa holders are generally allowed to work part-time on campus during studies and may apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation to gain practical experience in their field.
