Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870)

Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa

(Subclass 870)

The Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa allows parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia temporarily for up to 3 or 5 years without needing to permanently migrate or meet Balance of Family requirements.

Key Benefits of Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870)

The Subclass 870 visa offers families a more flexible and meaningful way to stay connected. With this visa, parents can:

  • Stay longer with loved ones: Unlike standard visitor visas, the 870 visa allows parents to remain in Australia for up to five years per visit, strengthening bonds with their children and grandchildren.

  • Remain in Australia while awaiting permanent residency: For those who have already lodged a permanent parent visa application—often subject to long processing times—this temporary visa serves as a valuable interim solution, allowing them to live in Australia during the wait.

  • Support family reunification efforts: Introduced in response to community concerns over limited permanent parent visa spots and long delays, this visa provides a more accessible, short- to medium-term option for bringing families together.
