General Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Skilled Regional Visa (Subclass 887), you must meet the following requirements:

  • Previous Visa Holding: You must have held one of the following provisional visas:
    • Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489)
    • Skilled Independent Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 495)
    • Skilled Designated Area Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 496)
    • Skilled Regional Sponsored visa (subclass 475 or 487)
    • A Bridging visa A or Bridging visa B after applying for a subclass 495, 487, or 489 visa.
  • Regional Residence: You must have lived for at least two years in a specified regional area of Australia. If you were sponsored by an eligible relative, you must have lived in a designated area of Australia for a minimum of two years.
  • Work Experience: You must have worked full-time (at least 35 hours per week) for a total of one year in a specified regional area.
  • Visa Compliance: You must have complied with all conditions attached to your previous provisional visa.
  • Health and Character: You must meet Australia’s health and character requirements.

Health and Character Requirements

All applicants, including accompanying family members, must meet Australia’s health and character standards. This generally involves:

  • Completing the required medical examinations

  • Submitting police clearance certificates from each country where you (and any family members aged 16 or older) have lived for 12 months or more over the past 10 years

Note: Health examination results remain valid for 12 months.

 

Adding Family Members 

You may include the following eligible family members in your visa application:

  • Your spouse or de facto partner

  • Your child or your partner’s biological or step-child

You must provide appropriate documentary evidence to verify your relationship with each family member.
