Partner Visas

Partner visas are for individuals in a genuine relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. This includes:

• Spouses or married partners

• Fiancés/fiancées (intending to marry)

• De facto partners, including same-sex relationships

These visas typically follow a two-stage process: a temporary visa is granted first, followed by a permanent visa after approximately two years, provided the relationship remains genuine and ongoing.

Parent Visas

Parent visas allow parents to join their children who are settled in Australia. Applicants must be sponsored by their child, who must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. Visa options vary based on:

• The parent’s age (working-age or aged 67+)

• Whether the application is made from inside or outside Australia

• Willingness to pay higher fees under Contributory Parent visas for faster processing

Note: Many Parent visas are subject to capping and queuing, with limited numbers granted each year and long waiting periods.

Child Visas

Child visas enable children of eligible parents to migrate and live in Australia. Applicants must be sponsored by a parent who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. Key options include:

• Subclass 802 – for children applying from within Australia

• Subclass 101 – for children applying from outside Australia

• Subclass 102 – for adopted children

• Subclass 117 – for orphan relatives with no parents able to care for them

Other Family Members

Australia also offers family reunion pathways for other relatives, including:

• Brothers and sisters

• Dependent aged relatives

• Carers of Australian relatives with long-term medical conditions (Subclass 116/836)

These visas often require a sponsorship and may be permanent or have a pathway to permanent residency. Like Parent visas, many are subject to caps and long wait times.
